WITH THESE HANDS

WE FIGHT FOR ABORTION

PROTECT ABORTION

PROTECT ABORTION •

The green pañuelo, or handkerchief — became a symbol of Argentina and the rest of Latin America’s  movement for the right to legal, safe, and free abortion, known as the “Green Wave.” In the spirit of this movement, we now use this iconic color here in the United States.

Handprints are the original ‘selfie’, the very first way that people recorded their passage. The urge to leave a visual mark that says I was here is uniquely human.

In combining the handprint and the color green, we tie ourselves collectively to our shared humanity. The green handprint serves as a reminder that none of us are free until all of us have the freedom of bodily autonomy.

With humility and great indebtedness the image of the green handprint stands on the shoulders of the Green Wave, Gran Fury and Act Up's campaign, “The Government Has Blood On Its Hands."

The image of the hand also recalls the anti-fascist, World War II-era poster designed by the artist John Heartfield directly against the Third Reich. The text on the original poster is:

"A hand has 5 fingers! With these 5 grab the enemy!"

Let the green handprint serve as a reminder that with our hands…

We love.
We form community.
And we create families.

With our hands we make change.

With our hands we fight for abortion.

Protect Reproductive Freedom.
